The Explanation
The big, new house for God was ready. It was very big and very beautiful. King Solomon had built it. And now everyone stood outside. Very quiet. Very still.
King Solomon had just prayed. He had said: "Dear God, please come and live here."
And then… something happened.
Look up! Fire! Fire came down from the sky! Right down to the altar. Whoosh! The offering burned up all at once.
And then a bright, shining light filled the whole house. So bright! It was God Himself. God had come!
The priests could not even go inside. The light was too big, too beautiful.
All the people saw it. And they all bowed down. Their faces went right to the ground. They whispered and they sang: "God is good. God is always good."
What Does This Mean?
The people were so happy! God had really come. He said, "Yes, I want to live here with you."
They made a big, big party. Seven whole days! There was music. There were trumpets. There was food. Everybody sang together.
Then all the people went back home. Their hearts were full of joy. God was so good to them.
The Common Thread
That night, God spoke to Solomon. God said something very sweet.
"Solomon, I heard your prayer. My eyes will watch this house. My ears will listen. And My heart will be here. Always."
God loves to hear people pray. He listens. He really listens!
And now, do you know what is even more special? Jesus came later. Jesus said, "You do not need a big house to talk to God. You can talk to Him anywhere!"
In your bed. In the car. In the garden. God hears you. His ears listen. His heart is close. Always.
For You
God is not far away. God is near.
When you say, "Dear God…" He hears you right away. He bends down close. Like a daddy who picks up his little child.
Do you know what makes God happy? When you talk to Him. Even with tiny words. Even with a little whisper.
You do not need a big, shiny house. You do not need trumpets. You do not need fire from the sky.
You just need your own little voice. And God says, "I hear you. I love you. I am here."

But the words came later, in the dark, when the crowds had gone home. Notice too what God calls the temple: "a house of sacrifice." Not a monument. A place where something costly is laid down.
