2 Samuel 7

The Explanation
King David lived in a big house. A house of wood, strong and good.
But God's box, the special ark, lived in a tent. Just a tent, with soft curtains.
David thought about that. He said, "That is not right. I have a house. But God has only a tent."
David told Nathan, the man who heard from God. "I want to build God a house too."
Nathan said, "Good, David. Go and do it."
But that night, God spoke to Nathan. God had something to say.
What Does This Mean?
God said, "David, I do not need a house. I have never asked for one."
"I walked with my people, in the desert, in a tent. I was with them."
Then God said something else. Something big.
"David, I took you from the sheep. You used to watch sheep, in the fields."
"I made you a king. I helped you win. I have been with you."
And then God made a promise. Listen carefully, this is important.
"I will make you a house too, David. Not a house of wood. A family. Your family will be kings, forever."
David could not believe it. God wanted to give, not to get.
The Common Thread
God said, "Your throne will be established forever."
Forever is a long, long time. Longer than tomorrow. Longer than every day you can count.
God kept that promise. Many years later, a baby was born from David's family.
His name was Jesus. He is the King who stays forever.
David wanted to build God a house. But God built David a family, and Jesus came from it.
For You
David sat down. He did not run around, or shout with joy. He just sat, quietly, before God.
He said, "Who am I, Lord? What have I done, that you are so good to me?"
You can sit quietly too. You can fold your hands, and be still.
You can say thank you, just like David did.
