Galatians 3

Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)

Bible

The Explanation

Listen. Paul writes a letter. A long letter, on paper. He sends it to people far away. Those people are called the Galatians. Paul loves them very much.

But Paul is a little sad. And a little cross too. Because the Galatians forgot something. Something very important.

They forgot how Jesus helps them. Jesus helps them for free! You don't have to earn it. You may just come. Just like that.

Paul writes: "Do you remember? Do you remember Jesus? Jesus on the cross? He did that for you!"

Then Paul tells about a man from long ago. His name was Abraham. Abraham trusted God. He said: "Yes, God, I believe You." And God was happy about that. Very happy.

Paul says: "See? That is how it works. You may just trust God. Then you belong to Him."

What Does This Mean?

You don't have to do very difficult things for God. You don't have to be super good. You don't have to be the best.

You may just come. With your little hands. With your little feet. Just the way you are.

God says: "Come here. I love you. You belong to Me."

That makes God happy. When you trust Him. When you say: "God, I believe in You."

The Common Thread

And then Paul writes the most beautiful thing of all. Listen carefully.

Paul says: "You are all children of God!"

Do you hear that? Children! You too. Little children, big children, all children.

How does that work? Through Jesus. Jesus opens the door. Jesus takes your hand. And Jesus brings you to Father God.

Big people, small people, everyone may come. Boys and girls. Everyone. Jesus loves them all. Everyone is welcome.

That is the big story. From way back to now. God wanted a very big family. And He got one. Because of Jesus.

For You

Do you know what is so wonderful? You are a child of God too. Really!

Not because you are so sweet. Not because you can already dress yourself. Not because you tidy up nicely.

But because Jesus loves you. That's the whole reason.

Sometimes you fall. Sometimes you do something silly. Sometimes you cry. That's okay. You still belong. Really.

You may come to God. Every day. In the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. He is happy when you come.

Just say: "Hello, God. Here I am." That's enough. He hears you.

Talk About It

Do you know that you are a child of God? How does that feel inside?

What can you say to God when you come to Him?

Praying Together

Dear God,

Thank You for Jesus. Thank You that I may come. Just the way I am. I am Your child. That is so nice.

Amen.

What others discovered

Insight Editorial on verse 4

Did you suffer so many things in vain, if it is indeed in vain?" Paul cannot finish the sentence without adding hope. He asks whether their pain was wasted, then quickly leaves the door open. He refuses to write them off. What did believing cost you once? That cost was not thrown away. Don't hand it back now for rules.

Insight Editorial on verse 26

For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus." Notice the word all. Paul is writing to people who kept measuring themselves against each other, who was closer, who kept more rules. There is no ranking here. You are not a servant hoping to be promoted. You are already His child, and that standing came to you the same way it came to everyone else.

Insight Editorial on verse 28

Paul names the three lines that decided everything back then: birth, status, gender. Who could enter which court, who could speak, who belonged. Then he says, "you are all one in Christ Jesus." The verse before says you were clothed with Christ, so he is what people meet first in you. Who are you still quietly ranking?

Insight Editorial on verse 3

Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now completed in the flesh?"

Paul's question stings because it exposes something we still do. You met Jesus by grace, undeserved, breathtaking. But somewhere along the way, you started keeping score again. Reading enough, praying enough, trying enough.

The Spirit who started the work in you was never going to hand it off to your effort. Rest.
