Hebrews 7

The Explanation
Long, long ago, there was a man named Abraham. Abraham had walked a very long way. He was tired. And he came home from a big fight.
Then Abraham saw someone standing there. His name was Melchizedek. What a strange name! Say it softly: Mel-chi-ze-dek.
Melchizedek was a king. And he was also a priest. A priest is someone who helps you talk to God. Melchizedek loved God very much.
Melchizedek looked at Abraham. And he said kind words. He blessed Abraham. That means: he asked God to be very good to Abraham.
Abraham was so happy! He took the very best he had. And he gave a big part to Melchizedek. Because Melchizedek belonged to God.
What Does This Mean?
The Bible tells us: look how special Melchizedek was. He was a king. He was a priest. He blessed people. And God was with him.
But then the Bible whispers something even bigger. There is Someone who is much more special than Melchizedek. Someone who is a King forever. And a Priest forever. Someone who lives and lives and lives, and never stops.
Do you know who that is? That is Jesus.
The Common Thread
Jesus is like Melchizedek, but even greater. Jesus is our King. Jesus is our Priest. That means Jesus helps us talk to God. Every day. Every night.
Priests used to bring gifts to God, over and over again. But Jesus gave one big gift. He gave Himself. One time. And it was enough. Forever.
And listen, this is so beautiful. Jesus is alive. He does not die anymore. So He can always, always help you. When you are little. When you are big. When you are old. Jesus is always there.
The Bible says Jesus can help you all the way. Not a little bit. All the way!
For You
Sometimes you want to say something to God. Maybe you feel small. Maybe you don't know the right words. That is okay.
Jesus is your Helper. He takes you by the hand. He walks with you to God. And God listens. God smiles. Because you belong to Jesus.
You can talk to God anywhere. In your bed. In the car. On the swing. Jesus is with you. He never leaves.

For the law appoints men as high priests who have weakness." Every priest before Jesus had to offer sacrifice for his own sins first. Think about that. The man carrying your case to God was tangled in his own.
Now a Son stands there, sworn in by God's own oath, forever. The one who prays for you never has an off day.
Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death." Every priest was interrupted mid-service. Think of the pastor who baptized you, the friend who prayed you through your worst year. Death hinders them all. Jesus is never hindered. He is the only one who will know your whole story, beginning to end.
Melchizedek had no priestly pedigree, no Levitical bloodline, no temple credentials. Yet Scripture says he "has blessed him who has the promises." Think of that. Abraham, the father of the faithful, receives the blessing rather than gives it.
Maybe you keep waiting to feel qualified before you receive something from God. But blessing does not flow from your résumé. It comes down to you, unearned, from a greater hand.
