Hosea 9

The Explanation

The grain was ripe. Golden and heavy. The people of Israel danced on the threshing floor. They sang loud songs. They laughed and clapped.

But their hearts were far away. Far from God. They loved other things more than Him. They forgot who gave them the grain. They forgot who gave them the wine.

God saw it. He was not happy. Not because He is mean. Because He loves them. And they had walked away.

The bread they baked did not smell sweet to Him anymore. It smelled sad. Like bread you eat when someone has died. God said, it will not come into my house.

What Does This Mean?

God's people did not want to sit at His table anymore. They wanted to feast without Him. They wanted the grain, the wine, the singing, but not God Himself.

So the harvest would fail. The full baskets would become empty. The happy tents would grow quiet, with thorns growing where children used to play.

God said their glory would fly away, like a bird. Fast. Far. Gone. That is a sad picture. A house with no birds, no laughing, no little ones running around. God felt that sadness deeply.

The Common Thread

Why did God say all this? Not to scare His people forever. He said it because He still wanted them near.

A long time later, God sent Someone to bring His children home again. Jesus. Jesus never walked away from God's table. He always stayed close to His Father. And He calls us to come close too, even when we have wandered far.

God is like a father standing at the door. Watching the road. Waiting for his children to come running back.

God wants you at His table too. Not just for the bread. For Him.

When you pray, when you sing, when you say thank You before you eat, that is you coming close to God. Sitting near Him. Not running away like a bird.
