Job 19

Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)

Bible

The Explanation

There was once a man. His name was Job. Job was very sad. Everything was gone. His house. His animals. Even his children. And Job was very sick. His skin hurt. His bones hurt everywhere.

Job sat on the ground. He looked so thin. You could almost count his bones. Job was so tired.

Three friends came to Job. But the friends were not kind. They said mean things. Again and again. Job cried. "Stop it! You hurt me with your words."

Job looked up. He said, "Please, be nice to me. Have a little pity. I am so sad already."

Then Job said something very special. Something wonderful. Listen well.

Job said, "I know it! I know for sure! My Helper lives! One day He will stand here on the earth. And I will see Him. With my own eyes. I will see Him!"

Job did not know everything yet. But deep in his heart he knew: God is there. And God will come.

What Does This Mean?

Job was really, really sad. Sometimes people are that sad. Then everything hurts. Inside and outside.

But look. Even when Job cried, he did not let go of God. Job held on tight. Like a little hand holding tight to Daddy's finger. Job said, "My Helper lives!"

The Common Thread

Who was Job's Helper? Job did not know His name yet. But we do. His name is Jesus.

Jesus came to the earth. Just like Job said. Jesus makes sad people happy again. Jesus takes tears away. One day everything sad will be gone. Really everything.

That is such good news. Job already knew a little bit. And we know it too.

For You

Are you sometimes sad? Do you cry sometimes? Maybe because you fell down. Or because you miss someone. Or because someone said something mean.

Then you can do what Job did. You can talk to God. You may cry with God. God does not think that is silly. God listens.

And you may know it too, just like Job. Jesus lives! Jesus loves you. Even when you are sad. Even when it hurts. Jesus is close by.

You can hold His hand tight. Just like a little hand around Daddy's big finger. Very tight. Jesus does not let go. Never.

Talk About It

When are you sometimes sad? What helps you then?

Job said: my Helper lives! Who is our Helper?

Praying Together

Dear Lord Jesus,

Sometimes I am sad. Sometimes I cry. Then You are close by. You are my Helper. Thank You that You live. Thank You that You love me.

Amen.
