The Explanation
There was a big tent. A special tent. God lived there.
Moses stood by the tent. It was quiet. Then God called his name.
"Moses." God's voice, from the tent.
God had something to say. About a lamb. About a gift.
A man could bring a lamb to God. A soft, woolly lamb. Or a little bird.
The lamb had to be a good lamb. No hurts. No sickness. The very best one.
The man put his hand on the lamb's head. Gently. Right on top.
Then the lamb was given to God. All of it. On the fire, on the altar.
Smoke went up. Up, up, into the sky. It smelled sweet to God.
What Does This Mean?
Why a lamb? Why the very best one?
Because giving to God is not a little thing. It is big. It costs something.
You do not give God your broken toy. You give your best toy.
The man's hand on the lamb was not sudden pretend. That hand said something quiet. It said: this one is for you, God. All of it.
God was not far away in the sky. He lived right there. In the tent. Close by.
The Common Thread
Long, long after this, there was another gift. Not a lamb this time.
Jesus gave himself. All of himself. For everyone.
He was without hurts, without sin, like that good lamb. The very best one.
He did not have to be given. He gave himself. That is different, and bigger.
The lambs in the tent pointed forward. Like a finger pointing down a road. And at the end of that road stood Jesus.

God likes it when you give him your best thing. Your best "thank you." Your best "I love you."
Not your leftover time. Your best time.
God is close to you too. Not just in an old tent. Right here, right now.
