Proverbs 21
Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)
The Explanation
God sees hearts. Not just hands. Not just faces.
He looks inside, like weighing something on a scale.
"Yahweh weighs the hearts," the Bible says.
There was a poor man once. He was hungry. He cried out loud.
Some people heard him. But they covered their ears.
They did not want to help. They did not want to share.
God saw that too. He sees everything, even quiet things.
What Does This Mean?
God loves it when people are kind. Really kind, not just pretend.
"It is joy to the righteous to do justice," the Bible says.
Justice means doing what is right, even when it is hard.
Imagine a boy with two cookies. His friend has none.
He could hide his cookies. Or he could share.
Sharing makes God happy. Hiding does not.
The Bible also says, "guard your mouth and your tongue."
That means think before you talk. Do not say mean things.
Words can hurt, like a stone. Or they can help, like bread.
The Common Thread
Long ago, kings ruled the land. Even kings could not hide from God.
"The king's heart is in Yahweh's hand," the Bible says.
That means God is bigger than any king.
Bigger than any grown-up. Bigger than anyone.
One day, Jesus came. He was kind to poor people.
He never closed His ears to anyone who cried.
He listened. He helped. He shared.
Jesus shows us exactly what a good heart looks like.
For You
Do you ever hear someone crying? A little brother? A friend?
Do not cover your ears. Go and see what is wrong.
Maybe you can give a hug. Maybe you can share your snack.
That makes God smile, just like it says in the Bible.
And when you feel angry words coming, close your mouth like a door.
Take a breath. Think of something kind to say instead.
God is watching, not to scare you, but because He loves you.
He sees your heart. He wants it soft and kind.
Talk About It
Can you think of someone who needs your help today?
What is one kind thing you could say instead of a mean thing?
Praying Together
Dear God,
You see my heart.
Help it be kind and soft.
Help me listen when someone cries.
Help me share, not hide.
Thank You for loving me.
Amen.
