Romans 3
Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)
The Explanation
Paul wrote a letter. A big letter, full of words.
He wanted to tell everyone something true. Something hard.
Paul said, nobody is good. Not one person.
Not you, not me, not anyone. Everybody does wrong things.
Everybody says mean words sometimes. Everybody has an angry heart sometimes.
Paul said it is like this. No one looks for God. Not one.
That sounds sad. Very sad.
But Paul was not finished yet.
What Does This Mean?
God sees everything. He sees the good and the wrong.
He sees when we push, when we lie, when we grab.
Every mouth closes when it stands before God.
No one can say, "Look how good I am!"
Because nobody is good enough, all by themselves.
Not the strongest. Not the smartest. Not even the ones who try very hard.
Everyone needs help. Everyone.
The Common Thread
But God did something. Something wonderful.
He sent Jesus.
Jesus did not do wrong things. Not one single one.
Jesus took all the wrong things, all the broken things, onto himself.
He did it out of love.
Paul wrote, God gives this "freely, by his grace."
Freely means you do not pay for it. You do not earn it.
It is a gift. Like a warm hug you did not ask for.
Jesus is the gift. God gives him to Jews and to everyone else too.
To all who believe in Jesus.
For You
Have you ever done something wrong? Everybody has.
Maybe you hit your brother. Maybe you told a lie.
You do not have to hide it. God already knows.
And God still loves you. So much.
He gave Jesus so you could be close to him again.
You do not have to be perfect first. Jesus already did the hard part.
You just believe him. You just say yes to him.
That is enough. That is everything.

Did you know Jesus loves you even when you do wrong things?
Praying Together
Dear God,
Sometimes I do wrong things.
Thank you for loving me anyway.
Thank you for Jesus.
Thank you that it is a gift.
Amen.
What others discovered
Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God."
Notice what the law does: it closes mouths. No more excuses, no more comparing yourself to someone worse. Before God, the arguments you rehearse in your head fall silent. And strange as it sounds, that silence is where grace finally gets a word in.
