1 Chronicles 23

The Explanation
David was old now. Very old. His hair was grey, his hands were slow.
But his heart was busy. David called his son Solomon. "You will be king now," he said.
Then David called many, many men together. So many! They were the Levites. They had special work to do.
Some Levites watched over God's house. Some stood by the doors, like guards. Some judged what was fair.
And some, David said, would sing. They would sing for Yahweh, with trumpets and harps and cymbals. Loud and beautiful.
David gave each family its own job. The sons of Gershon. The sons of Kohath. The sons of Merari. Every family, every name, mattered to David.
What Does This Mean?
Think about it. So many people, so many names. David did not forget one single family.
Every Levite had a job. A real job, just for him. No one was left standing with nothing to do.
Some carried heavy things before. Now David said, "You do not have to carry the tent anymore. God is staying here, in Jerusalem, forever."
So now their hands were free. Free to open doors. Free to bake bread. Free to sing.
The Common Thread
Every morning the Levites stood up and said thank you to God. Every evening too. The sun rose, they sang. The sun went down, they sang again.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Morning and evening, every single day.
Long, long after this, another door opened. Jesus came. He is the door now. He is the true offering, the true song.
But it started here, with men standing in the light, singing thank you to God, without stopping.
For You
You have a job too, just like the Levites. Maybe you carry cups to the table. Maybe you fold your blanket.
Small jobs matter. God sees them. He saw every Levite's name, and he sees you.
And you can sing too. In the morning, when the sun comes through your window. Say thank you, God. Just like that.
