1 Chronicles 9

The Explanation

Long ago, the people of Israel had to leave home. They walked far away, to a place called Babylon. No home. No city. Just sand and tents.

But then, they came back! Back to their own cities. Back to their own houses. Can you feel how good that felt?

Some of them got a very special job. They were the gatekeepers. That means they watched the doors of God's house.

Every morning, someone opened the big doors. Every morning, someone stood watching. East side. West side. North side. South side. All around, guards were watching.

What Does This Mean?

Think of a big, big house. God's house. It had doors, and keys, and rooms full of things.

There was bread, warm and soft. There was oil, golden and smooth. There was sweet spice, smelling like flowers.

Some men took care of the bread. Some men took care of the oil. Some men mixed the sweet spices, so God's house always smelled good.

And some people sang! Day and night, they sang. Their songs filled the rooms.

Everybody had a job. Little jobs, and big jobs. All of them mattered.

The Common Thread

Do you know who watched the gate a long, long time ago? A man named Phinehas. And the story tells us something wonderful. It says, "Yahweh was with him."

God was with the man at the door.

God is not far away, hiding. God wants a house where people can come close to Him. He wants doors that open. He wants light, and bread, and singing.

Later, Jesus came. Jesus said He is like a door too, a way to come near to God. Doors were always important to God, because He wants us near Him.

For You

You have a door at your house too. Every morning, somebody opens it.

Think about that. Every single morning, your door opens, and a new day comes in.

God's door is always open for you. You do not need a key. You do not need to knock and knock and wait. You can just come.
