Ezra 1

The Explanation
Far, far away lived a king. His name was Cyrus. He wore a golden crown. He had a very big country.
But listen. In that big country lived sad people. They were called Jews. God's own people. Long ago they had to leave their home. They lived far from where they belonged. They missed their houses. They missed God's beautiful house too. That house was called the temple.
Then God did something. God whispered in the heart of King Cyrus. Yes, really. God can do that.
Cyrus stood up. He said something big. He said, "Listen everyone! God in heaven has spoken to me. His people may go home! They may build God's house again!"
Everyone was quiet. Was this really true? Yes, it was true.
What Does This Mean?
Cyrus opened his big treasure room. Inside were beautiful things. Golden cups. Silver bowls. Shiny plates. All the pretty things from God's house. They had been in a dark room for a long time.
Cyrus said, "Take them. They belong in God's house."
Then the Jews packed their bags. They took their donkeys. They took their children. They took the golden cups. And they went home. Happy, happy, happy. God had heard them. God had not forgotten them.
The Common Thread
God always keeps His promises. Always. God had said, "One day I will bring you home." And look, God did it.
God did that again later. Much later. God sent Jesus. Jesus came to bring people home to God. So we can be with God forever. That is the very best coming home.
For You
Sometimes you have to wait a long time. Waiting for your birthday. Waiting for grandpa to visit. Waiting is hard.
God's people waited a long time too. But God did not forget them. God does not forget you either. Never.
Look at your hands. God knows your hands. Look at your feet. God knows your feet. God knows your name. And when you talk to God, God listens.
Isn't that wonderful? A big God in heaven, who thinks about you.

Thirty platters of gold, one thousand platters of silver, twenty-nine knives." Twenty-nine. Not thirty, not a rounded guess. Someone counted. Seventy years in a pagan treasury, and God knew exactly what was taken and exactly what came home. He keeps that kind of record of what you lost too. Nothing slipped His mind while you waited.
Notice the small phrase tucked into Ezra 1:5: those who went up were the ones "whose spirit God had stirred to go up to build." The decree was public, the invitation open, but not everyone moved. God stirred hearts, and stirred hearts obeyed.
You may be feeling that quiet stirring right now, a nudge toward something costly. Don't mistake it for restlessness. It might be God, inviting you home to build.
