2 Chronicles 5
Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)
The Explanation
King Solomon built a big house for God. A beautiful house. Now it was ready.
Solomon called all the people together. The old men came. The leaders came. Everyone came to Jerusalem.
Why? Because of a special box. It was called the ark. God's ark.
The priests picked up the ark. Carefully. So carefully. They carried it up, up, up to the new house.
Solomon and all the people walked with it. They brought sheep. They brought cattle. So many, no one could count them.
The priests carried the ark inside. Into the most special room of all. They set it down under two golden angels. The angels had big wings, spread out wide.
Inside the ark were two stone tablets. Old, old stones. Moses had put them there, long ago.
What Does This Mean?
Then something happened.
The singers stood ready. Trumpets, one hundred twenty of them, shining. Cymbals. Harps.
All the trumpets and all the voices went together, like one big voice. They sang one thing:
"For he is good. For his loving kindness endures forever."
Just then, a cloud came. A thick, soft cloud filled the whole house.
The priests could not even stand up. The cloud was too much. Too heavy. Too holy.
Do you know what the cloud was? It was God. God's glory, filling His house.
The Common Thread
God came to live close to His people. Right there, in that house, in that cloud.
Later, God came even closer. He sent Jesus. Jesus did not stay in one house. Jesus walked among people. Jesus touched them, ate with them, loved them.
God still wants to be close. That has never changed.
For You
When you sing about God, something can happen. Maybe not a cloud. But God hears you. He is near when you sing.
You can sing right now, if you want. Softly, or loud. God is good. He never stops loving.
Talk About It
What do you think it felt like when the cloud filled the house?
Can you sing "God is good" right now, just like the people did?
Praying Together
Dear God, You are good. Your love never stops. Thank You for coming close to us. Amen.

What others discovered
All the priests who were present had sanctified themselves, and didn't keep their divisions." Normally they served by rotation. Not that day. Every priest showed up, even the ones officially off duty, because the ark was coming home. Some moments are too holy for a schedule. When God moves, will you come only on your assigned day?
