Ezekiel 10

Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)

Bible

The Explanation

Listen. There was a man. His name was Ezekiel. And Ezekiel saw something very special. Something you have never seen before.

He looked up. High up! And there in the sky he saw a throne. A beautiful throne, shiny and blue. Like a big blue stone. That was God's throne.

And under the throne? There were angels. Big, strong angels. They are called cherubim. That is a special word for very special angels.

The angels had wings. Big wings. And next to the angels were wheels. Big wheels that could roll everywhere. Up, down, forward, back. The wheels could go anywhere the angels went.

And oh, listen to this. The wheels had eyes on them. Lots and lots of eyes. Because God sees everything.

Then God spoke. His voice was loud. Very loud. Like thunder in the sky.

The whole house shone. It was full of light. Bright, bright light. That was God's glory. That means: how beautiful and big God is.

What Does This Mean?

Ezekiel saw how big God really is. God is not small. God is not far away. God is HUGE. And God shines. And God sees everything.

The angels flap their wings. Whoosh, whoosh. And God's voice sounds. And everything shines with light.

God is holy. That means God is very, very special. There is no one like Him.

The Common Thread

Ezekiel could only look. He could not go to God. God was too big and too bright.

But then, a long, long time later, Jesus came. Jesus is God's Son. And Jesus came very close. So close that children could sit on His lap. So close that you could touch Him.

Ezekiel saw God from far away. But because of Jesus, you can come very close to God. Isn't that wonderful?

For You

God is big. Bigger than daddy. Bigger than the house. Bigger than the sky.

And God sees you. Right now. He sees your hands. He sees your feet. He sees your smile.

Sometimes it is dark at night. Or you feel small. But God is there. He shines. He sees you. And He loves you very much.

You can whisper to Him. Very softly. And He hears you. Because God is close, thanks to Jesus.

Talk About It

What did Ezekiel see up in the sky? Can you tell me?

God sees you all the time. Does that make you happy, or does it feel a little strange?

Praying Together

Dear God,

You are so big. You shine so bright. And You see me. Thank You that You are close. Thank You for Jesus. Amen.

Insight Editorial on verse 6

Take fire from between the whirling wheels, from between the cherubim." A man in linen is sent right into the heart of God's holy chariot to gather burning coals, coals that will soon be scattered over Jerusalem in judgment.

What strikes me is the pause. He goes in, and he stands beside a wheel. Even judgment does not rush. God is deliberate, never careless with fire, even when His people have grieved Him deeply. If He handles wrath with such care, imagine how He handles you.
