Galatians 4

The Explanation
Once there was a man named Paul. Paul loved Jesus very much. And Paul wrote a letter. A long letter, to friends far away. Those friends lived in a place called Galatia.
Paul wrote something important. Listen carefully. Paul said: "You are little children of God! Yes, really! God is your Father!"
Isn't that beautiful? God, who made the sun and the stars, wants to be your Father. He wants to hold you close. Just like a daddy hugs his little one.
What Does This Mean?
Paul told a story. About a big house, long ago. In that house lived a little boy. The boy was the son of the boss. One day, everything in the house would be his!
But the boy was still small. He couldn't do it all yet. So he had helpers. They said: "Do this. Don't do that. Wait a little longer."
The boy had to wait. And wait. And wait some more.
Then, at last, the boy grew big. And his father said: "Now, my son, come here. Everything is yours now. You are big enough."
Paul said: that is how it was with us. We had to wait. Wait for something wonderful. Wait for Jesus.
The Common Thread
And then… then it happened! God sent His own Son. His name was Jesus. Jesus came from heaven, all the way down to earth. He was born as a tiny baby, in a manger.
Jesus came for you. And for me. So we could become children of God. Real children. With God as our Father!
And God did something else. Something wonderful. He put His Spirit in our hearts. The Spirit whispers softly inside: "God is your Father. He loves you so much."
Sometimes we call God like this: "Abba! Father!" Abba means daddy. Just like you call your own daddy. That's how close God wants to be.
For You
Do you know what is so lovely? You don't have to work hard to belong to God. You don't have to be the best or the smartest. God says: "Come here, little one. You are Mine."
Sometimes you feel small. Sometimes you feel sad. Sometimes you did something wrong. And then you think: does God still love me?
Yes! Oh yes! God is your Father. Fathers don't stop loving. Not ever.
You can talk to God. In the morning, when you wake up. In the evening, in your bed. When you are scared, when you are happy. God is listening. Just like a daddy listens to his little one.

Dear God,
Thank You that You are my Father. Thank You that I may be Your child. You are so close to me. Even when I don't see You.

Notice what Paul says about Hagar: she "is in bondage with her children." A slave mother can only bear slave children. Whatever mothers you shapes you. So what have you handed yourself over to? If your peace depends on getting the rules right today, you have chosen Hagar, and her children never stop working.
They zealously seek you in no good way. No, they desire to alienate you, that you may seek them."
Notice the strategy: cut you off, so you cling to them. Real love never isolates you from other voices, from Christ, from freedom. It widens your world. When someone's affection makes you smaller and more dependent on their approval, that zeal is not for you. It is for themselves.
