Genesis 5
Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)
The Explanation
Long, long ago, God made a man. His name was Adam.
God made Adam like Himself. Not with a big body like a giant. But inside, in his heart.
God loved Adam very much.
Adam grew big. He became a papa. His little boy was named Seth.
Seth grew big too. He became a papa too. His boy was named Enosh.
One papa. Then another papa. Then another.
Grandpas and grandpas and grandpas, all in a row.
Enosh, then Kenan. Kenan, then Mahalalel. Mahalalel, then Jared.
So many names. So many babies born. So many families.
Every one of them lived a very, very long time. Longer than you can count. Longer than grandma and grandpa. Longer than anyone you know.
And then, at the end of their long, long life, each one of them died.
Adam died. Seth died. Enosh died too.
That is sad. Very sad.
But wait. One man was different.
His name was Enoch.
What Does This Mean?
Enoch did not just live his days. Enoch walked with God.
Can you see it? Enoch, walking. God, right beside him. Like a papa and his little boy, holding hands.
Every day. For three hundred years, Enoch walked with God.
And then, one day, Enoch was not there anymore.
He did not die like the others. God simply took him.
God took Enoch home, close to Himself.
The Common Thread
After Enoch, more papas were born. Methuselah. Lamech.
Lamech held his brand new baby boy. He looked at him softly.
He named him Noah.
Lamech said the ground was hard to work. Full of thorns. Full of trouble.
But he hoped this baby, Noah, would bring comfort.
God was already planning something good. Something far bigger than Lamech knew.
A baby, born small, who would matter to the whole world.
For You
Do you know what is the very best part?
You can walk with God too. Just like Enoch did.
When you wake up, God is there. When you eat your bread, God is there. When you go to sleep, God is right beside your bed.
You can talk to Him. You can hold His hand, in your heart.
Talk About It
What do you think Enoch and God talked about, while they were walking?
Can you walk with God today? What will you tell Him?
Praying Together
Dear God,
Thank You for making me.
Thank You that You walked with Enoch.
Walk with me too, today.
Hold my hand.
Amen.
