Proverbs 3
Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)
The Explanation
Long ago there was a wise papa. His name was Solomon. Solomon loved his little boy very much.
Solomon wanted to tell him something important. Come and sit close, my child, he said. Listen carefully.
God is so good. God loves you. Do you know what you can do? You can trust God. Always. With everything.
You do not always know things by yourself. But God knows everything. So ask God. Talk to God. Then God shows you the way.
That is what the wise papa said. And it stands in the Bible. In a book called Proverbs.
What Does This Mean?
Sometimes you do not know something. You do not know where your shoe is. Or you feel a little sad. Or you had a bad dream at night.
Then you can go to Mama or Papa. That is good. But you can also talk to God. God is always there. God never sleeps. God hears you.
The wise papa says: trust God with your whole heart. Your whole heart! Not just a little corner. But all of it.
That means: God, I believe in You. God, I need You. God, You know the way.
The Common Thread
God loves it when you come to Him. Just the way you are.
You know what is so wonderful? Later, Jesus came. Jesus is God's own Son. Jesus said: come to Me. Come, all you little children. Come and sit close.
Jesus took the children on His lap. He put His hands on their heads. And He blessed them.
So you can go to Jesus. You can trust Him. He is like a good, good Shepherd. He knows the way. He walks in front. And you may walk behind Him.
For You
Do you sometimes feel a little scared? Or do you not know what to do? Then you can whisper. Very softly. God, help me. God, You know it.
And do you know what is nice too? To say thank You. Thank You for the sun. Thank You for Mama. Thank You for my bear. Thank You, God.
Trusting God is a bit like this: you close your eyes. And you fall backwards. And Papa catches you. You know for sure: Papa catches me. That is how sure God is. He catches you. He holds you tight.
Every day. In the morning when you wake up. In the evening when you go to sleep. God is there.
Talk About It
What do you want to say thank You to God for today?
When do you feel a little scared? What can you tell God then?
Praying Together
Dear God,
Thank You that You are there. Thank You that You listen. I do not always know it. But You know everything. I trust You, God. Please hold my hand tight. Every day.
Amen.

My son, don't forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments." The danger named here isn't rebellion, it's forgetting. Most of us never walk away in one dramatic step. We just misplace God slowly, under busy weeks. And notice where the keeping happens. Not in your memory. In your heart.
Don't say to your neighbor, 'Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you,' when you have it by you."
The delay is the sin here. You already have what he needs. Your hand is full, his is empty, and you ask him to walk home and come back tomorrow.
How often is "tomorrow" just a polite word for "no"? God notices the gift you postponed today.
