Habakkuk 2
Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)
The Explanation
There was a man. His name was Habakkuk. He was sad, and he had a lot of questions. He talked with God about them.
Habakkuk climbed up high, up a tower. He looked out. And he listened. He wanted to hear what God would say.
Then God spoke. God said, "Habakkuk, write it down. Write it big. Then everyone can read it." So Habakkuk took something to write with. And he wrote.
God said, "Wait for Me. I am coming. Maybe you have to wait a long time. But I am really coming."
What Does This Mean?
In the land there were bad people. They did mean things. They stole. They lied. They laughed at God.
God saw it. God saw everything. And God said, "This is not okay."
But God also said something else. God said, "One day the whole earth will be full of Me. Just like the sea is full of water. Everywhere, everywhere, people will know about Me."
Isn't that a beautiful promise? The whole earth full of God. Everywhere.
The Common Thread
Habakkuk had to wait. Waiting is hard. Just like waiting for your birthday. Or waiting until Mommy comes to get you.
But God always keeps His promise. Always.
And do you know what God did? God sent Jesus. Jesus came to the earth. Jesus is the light of God. And later Jesus will come again. Then the whole earth will really be full of God. Everywhere joy. Everywhere light. No more sadness.
That is what Habakkuk was waiting for. And we are waiting too.
For You
Sometimes you have to wait. That is not always fun. You get impatient. Your feet want to run. Your mouth wants to say, "When then? When then?"
But God says, "I am coming. Trust Me."
You can talk to God, just like Habakkuk. You can tell Him everything. You are sad? Tell God. You are scared? Tell God. You don't understand something? Tell God.
And then you listen. Very quiet. Just like Habakkuk on his tower.
God is good. God sees you. God hears you. And God always keeps His promise. Always.
