Revelation 4

Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-6)

Bible

The Explanation

Come, we are going to hear something very special. It is about a man named John. John was old. He lived far away, on an island in the sea.

One day John was sitting there all alone. And then… then he saw something. A door! A door up in heaven. It stood wide open.

And a voice said: "Come up here! I will show you something."

Then John looked inside heaven. And what did he see?

He saw a big chair. A very big chair. It was a throne. And on the throne sat Someone. That was God Himself.

God shone. He shone like beautiful stones. Green and red and yellow. And around the throne was a rainbow. A bright rainbow, all around God.

John saw even more. Around the big throne stood more chairs. Twenty-four chairs. On every chair sat someone with a white robe. And on their heads they had golden crowns.

From the throne came lightning. And thunder. Booom! And in front of the throne burned seven lights. Beautiful and bright.

And listen carefully. There were also four special creatures. They had wings. Lots of wings. And they had eyes. Everywhere eyes. And they sang. Day and night they sang the same song:

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God!"

And then the twenty-four people stood up. They took their golden crowns from their heads. And they laid the crowns down. Down at God's feet. And they bowed low. Very low. And they said: "You are great, Lord! You made everything!"

What Does This Mean?

God is very, very big. Bigger than daddy. Bigger than mommy. Bigger than the whole house. Bigger than the sky.

And God is beautiful. So beautiful that He shines. In heaven everyone sings for Him. Because God is good. And God is holy. That means: God is really the very greatest.

The Common Thread

John was allowed to peek. Peek into heaven. And do you know who else is in heaven? Jesus. Jesus is with God. And one day, one day we may go there too. To that beautiful place where everyone sings.

For You

You cannot see God. Not with your eyes. But God is there. He sits on His big throne. And He sees you. Yes, you.

You can sing for God too. Just like the angels. You do not need a golden crown. You can just sing. In the car. In bed. At the table.

Because God is great. And God is good. And God loves you very much.

Talk About It

What do you think heaven looks like? What color would you like it to be?

The angels sing for God. What song would you like to sing for God?

Praying Together

Dear God, You are so big. And so beautiful. Thank You that You are there. I want to sing for You too. Amen.
