Acts 20
Explanation and Bible story for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 3-5)
The Explanation
It was night. Very dark, and very quiet.
In a small room, high up, many candles were burning. The light was warm and gold.
Paul was talking. He talked, and talked. He had so much to say.
A boy named Eutychus sat by the window. His eyes felt heavy. So heavy.
Paul kept talking. Eutychus tried to stay awake. But he could not.
He fell asleep. And then, oh no, he fell. Down, down, from the window. All the way down.
The people ran to him. He was not moving. Not at all.
Paul went down fast. He put his arms around the boy. He said, "Don't be troubled. His life is in him."
And the boy was alive! Everyone was so happy. So very happy.
What Does This Mean?
After that, Paul went on a long trip. Boats, and more boats. Over the blue water.
He came to a place called Miletus. He called his friends to come see him. His friends who took care of God's people, like shepherds take care of sheep.
Paul had something important to say. He looked at his friends. His eyes were a little sad.
"I will not see your faces again," he said.
His friends felt their hearts hurt. That is a hard thing to hear.
But Paul was not afraid. He said, "My life does not matter to me so much. I want to finish my race. I want to tell everyone the good news about Jesus."
The Common Thread
Paul loved Jesus so much. That is why he kept going, even when it was hard.
He told his friends, "Remember the words of the Lord Jesus. He said, it is more blessed to give than to receive."
Jesus gave everything. He gave His whole life, out of love. Paul wanted to be like Him.
For You
Do you get tired sometimes, like Eutychus? Everybody does.
But Jesus is never too tired for you. He always has time to hold you close.
You can give things away too. A toy. A hug. Half your cookie. That makes God happy.
Talk About It
Why do you think Paul kept talking, even when it was late at night?
Can you think of something small you could give to someone this week?
Praying Together
Dear God, thank You for Paul, who loved Jesus so much. Thank You that Jesus is never too tired for me. Help me to give, like Jesus gave. Amen.

What others discovered
They all wept freely, and fell on Paul's neck and kissed him." These were tough men, elders of Ephesus, and Paul had just told them they would never see his face again. Their tears weren't weakness. They were the mark of love poured out over years of shared prayer, struggle, and truth. When did you last let someone see you weep for them?
