Proverbs 8

The Explanation

Listen. Do you hear something? Someone is calling. Someone is calling loud and clear!

She stands on a high hill. She stands next to the road. She stands by the big gate of the city, where everyone walks in and out. And she calls. Her name is Wisdom.

Wisdom calls to everyone. To big people and small people. To wise people and to people who do not know much yet. "Come!" she calls. "Come and listen to me!"

What does Wisdom say? She says: "I tell only good things. I tell only true things. Never a lie. Never something ugly. Only what is true and good."

And Wisdom says something very special. She says: "I was there. Long, long ago. Before there were mountains. Before there was water. Before there was any earth. I was already with God."

Think about it. There was no sea yet. No clouds. No sun. Only God. And Wisdom was with Him.

Then God started to make things. He made the sky. He made the clouds high up. He made the deep sea. And He said to the water: "You may come this far. And no further." And the water listened.

And Wisdom was there. Wisdom was happy. So happy! She danced and laughed with God. And do you know what she liked most of all? People! You and me. Wisdom was happy about the children on the earth.

What Does This Mean?

Wisdom is like a kind teacher. She wants to show you how to live. She says: "Listen to me. Then it will go well with you."

God is so wise. He knows everything. And God wants to give His wisdom to you too. That is a beautiful gift. Better than gold. Better than a big treasure chest full of shiny things.

The Common Thread

Wisdom was with God, long before the world existed. Wisdom helped make everything.

Do you know who else was with God, long before there was anything? Jesus. Jesus was there too. Jesus is like Wisdom. When you listen to Jesus, you hear the very best words. True words. Good words.

Jesus calls you too. Just like Wisdom by the gate. Jesus says: "Come to Me. I love you."

For You

Wisdom stands by the gate and calls. She wants you to hear her.

Do you know when you can hear God? When someone reads from the Bible. When you pray. When Mama or Papa tells about Jesus. Then you can listen quietly. Like a little mouse. And your ears can catch the good words.

Every day is a good day to listen. Every day God has something to say to you.
