Thankful Hearts, Listening Ears
Thankful and Listening
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 118:29, Proverbs 16:3, 1 Samuel 3:4 and John 14:27.
☀ Morning moment
Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.
Psalm 118:29 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Say thank you to God, because He is good. His love for you never runs out, not even for one day.
Stretch your arms up high. It is Saturday, no bag to pack, no shoes to rush into. Maybe pancakes are waiting, or you can stay in pajamas a little longer.
Before anything else happens today, God is already thinking about you with love. Not because you were extra good yesterday, and not because today is a special day. His love just stays, like sunshine that keeps shining even on a lazy morning.
Today might be full of bike rides, board games, cousins visiting, or just quiet time with mom or dad. Whatever happens, you can say a small thank you to God as you go. Thank You for this free day. Thank You for being so good to me, again and again, every single morning.
✦ Lunch moment
Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed.
Proverbs 16:3 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: When you ask God to be part of your plans, He helps them go well.
What are you doing this afternoon? Maybe riding your bike, baking cookies with mom, or building something with your dad. Saturdays are full of little plans.
Did you know you can ask God to be part of those plans too? You don't need big words. You can just say, God, be with me while I play, or while we get ready for church tomorrow.
When you share your day with God, even the small stuff, it feels lighter. He is not far away, watching from a distance. He walks right beside you into the afternoon, into your games, your chores, your rest. Give Him your plans, and see how good the rest of today can be.
✩ Afternoon moment
Yahweh called Samuel. He said, “Here I am.”
1 Samuel 3:4 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God called little Samuel's name in the night, and Samuel answered right away, saying, "Here I am."
Maybe today you had a lazy Saturday. Pancakes for breakfast, pajamas until noon, no rush anywhere. It is a good day to just be home.
Samuel was a boy who slept in the temple, close to where God's special box was kept. One night he heard his name. He thought it was old Eli calling him, so he ran to check, again and again. It was actually God.
Samuel did not know yet what God's voice sounded like. That is okay, most children do not either. But Samuel kept getting up, kept listening, kept saying yes. On a quiet day like today, maybe you can get quiet too, and just wonder if God wants to say something to you.
☾ Evening moment
Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, I give to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.
John 14:27 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus gives you His own kind of peace, a peace that stays even in the dark. You don't need to be scared, because He is with you.
What a Saturday. Maybe you rode your bike, built something with blocks, or just lay in the grass watching clouds. Maybe you helped set the table, or played a board game with your family until someone won and someone laughed about losing.
Now the day is winding down. The lights are lower, your pajamas are on, and your bed is waiting. This is the moment Jesus talks about. He does not give a peace that disappears when the lights go out. He gives His own peace, the kind that stays right beside your pillow.
You can let your busy thoughts go now. The games are done, the toys can rest too. Jesus is not tired, He never sleeps, and He is watching over you all night long. Close your eyes. You are safe. Tomorrow is Sunday, and you get to wake up in His love again.
