God's House Is Full of Joy
Joyful Praise
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 84:1, Psalm 95:2, Luke 19:9 and Matthew 11:29.
☀ Morning moment
How lovely are your dwellings, Yahweh of Armies!
Psalm 84:1 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: The place where we meet God is a happy, wonderful place to be.
Today the bells might ring, or maybe you just hear mom or dad say, get dressed, we are going to church. You put on your favorite shirt and off you go, ready to sing and see friends there.
Think about your church for a moment. The chairs, the songs, maybe a cup of juice after. It is not just a building. It is a place where God is close, where people clap and pray and laugh together.
God loves it when His people gather. He is glad when you walk in the door, even if you are a little sleepy or wiggly during the songs.
Your turn
Before you leave, tell someone in your family one thing you are looking forward to at church today.
✦ Lunch moment
Let’s come before his presence with thanksgiving. Let’s extol him with songs!
Psalm 95:2 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Let's come to God with thankful hearts. Let's sing happy songs to show how great He is.
Today is Sunday, a day to gather and sing. Maybe you are at church right now, sitting between people you know, or humming a song you have heard a hundred times. Singing together is a bit like a big hug made of sound.
You do not need a perfect voice to praise God. Even if you mumble the words or make up your own tune in the car, God loves hearing you. Think of your favorite worship song, the one that makes you want to clap or sway.
Your turn
After lunch today, sing or hum one song of praise, even quietly, just for God to hear.
✩ Afternoon moment
Jesus said to him, “Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.
Luke 19:9 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus told Zacchaeus that today something wonderful happened, because Jesus came to save him.
Think about a day when something good happened so suddenly that you almost couldn't believe it. Maybe someone forgave you, or invited you to play, right when you felt left out. That is what happened to Zacchaeus. He climbed a tree just to look. Jesus stopped, looked up, and said He wanted to come to His house that very day.
Zacchaeus was not the kind of person others liked. But Jesus saw him and chose him anyway. That is how Jesus is with you too. He does not wait until you are perfect. He comes today, right into your ordinary Sunday, into your living room, your kitchen, your own heart.
Your turn
Today, tell someone at home one thing you are glad Jesus did for you.
☾ Evening moment
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:29 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus says come close to Him. He is gentle and kind, and with Him your heart can finally rest.
Today was Sunday, a day for church, for singing, for sitting together as a family. Maybe you clapped during a song, or maybe you just listened quietly next to mom or dad. Now the day is almost done, and your bed is waiting.
Jesus says something so soft tonight. He says, come to Me. Not come and work harder, not come and try more. Just come close, the way you lean your head on someone you trust. He is gentle. He will never push you away, not when you are tired, not when you are grumpy, not ever.
Your soul can rest now, just like your body will rest in bed. God is not far away tonight. He is right here, watching over you while you sleep.
Your turn
Before you close your eyes, whisper one thank you to Jesus for something good from today.
