Thankful Hearts All Day Long
Thankful Hearts
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 118:29, Colossians 3:23, Ruth 1:16 and Psalm 139:2.
☀ Morning moment
Oh give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever.
Psalm 118:29 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Say thank you to God, because He is good. His love for you never runs out, not even for one day.
Your shoes are on, your backpack is heavy, and maybe your hair is still a mess. Mornings can feel rushed, like everyone is shouting to hurry up. But right in the middle of all that noise, God is not rushing. He is already awake, already looking at you, already glad it is you.
Think about your favorite thing from yesterday, maybe a joke with your friend, or the last bite of toast. God gave you that. His love did not stop while you slept, and it will not stop today, not at school, not at recess, not even if you forget your homework. His love just keeps going, like a river that never dries up.
Your turn
Before you leave the house today, say one quiet thank you to God for something good, even something small like sunshine or your shoes.
✦ Lunch moment
And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men,
Colossians 3:23 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Whatever you do, do it with your whole heart, like you are doing it for Jesus, not just for people.
Maybe this afternoon you have math homework, or you have to clean your room, or help set the table. Some jobs feel boring. You might think, why try hard, nobody is even watching.
But here is a secret. Jesus is always watching, and He loves it when you give your best, even on small things. Not to show off, just because you care. A neat drawing, a kind answer, a tidy desk, it all matters to Him.
Your turn
So today, pick one small task, maybe homework or tidying your bag, and do it with your whole heart, like a little gift for Jesus.
✩ Afternoon moment
Ruth said, “Don’t urge me to leave you, and to return from following you, for where you go, I will go; and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people, and your God my God.
Ruth 1:16 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Ruth told Naomi she would stay with her no matter what. Wherever Naomi went, Ruth would go too.
Think about your best friend for a second. Would you still want to be their friend if they moved to a different town, or lost all their toys? Ruth did not leave Naomi, even when things got hard. She packed her bag and said, I am staying with you.
That is what real friendship looks like. Not just playing together on the good days, but staying close on the hard days too. Maybe someone at school is having a tough week. Maybe your little brother feels left out at recess.
Your turn
You do not have to fix everyone's problems. You just have to stay close, like Ruth did. Today, sit next to someone who looks a little lonely and just be their friend for five minutes.
☾ Evening moment
You know my sitting down and my rising up. You perceive my thoughts from afar.
Psalm 139:2 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God knows when you sit down and when you stand up. He even knows what you are thinking, right now, as you get ready for bed.
Think about everything that happened today. Maybe you ran at school, lost a pencil, laughed with a friend at lunch, or got tired doing homework. So many little moments, one after another.
Here is something wonderful. God was there for every single one of those moments. He saw you sit down for breakfast this morning. He sees you right now, lying in your bed. He even knows the thoughts swimming around in your head before you fall asleep. Nothing about your day was too small for Him to notice.
You don't have to explain your whole day to God like a report. He already knows it. You can just rest now, because He is watching over you tonight.
Your turn
Before you close your eyes, quietly tell God one thing that happened today, big or small.
