Joy Comes in the Morning
Joy and courage
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 30:5, Proverbs 11:17, 1 Samuel 17:40 and Luke 12:7.
☀ Morning moment
For his anger is but for a moment. His favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may stay for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
Psalm 30:5 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Even sad nights do not last forever. God promises that morning brings new joy, because He loves you all the time.
Maybe last night you felt a bit grumpy, or you cried about something small, like a broken toy or a fight with your brother. That is okay. Nights can feel heavy sometimes.
But look, the sun is up now. Your shoes are waiting by the door, your backpack is ready for school, and breakfast smells good in the kitchen. God says joy comes in the morning, like a surprise present tucked under your bed. He is not angry with you. He loves you today just as much as yesterday, maybe even more.
Your turn
So as you walk out the door to school, say one happy thing out loud to whoever is near you, like 'I'm glad it's Friday!' or 'Thank you for breakfast!'
✦ Lunch moment
The merciful man does good to his own soul, but he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.
Proverbs 11:17 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Being kind to others actually makes your own heart feel good too. Being mean hurts you back inside.
It is Friday, and maybe you are eating lunch at school with your friends right now. Think about the kid who always sits alone, or the one nobody picks for the game. It feels easy to just stay with your own friends and ignore them.
But here is something funny. When you are kind to someone else, it does not just help them. It warms up your own heart too, like a little fire inside. And when you are mean or push someone away, it makes you feel grumpy inside, even if you do not notice it right away.
Your turn
So today, when you see someone sitting alone at lunch or on the playground, go sit with them or say hello. Just that one small thing can change their whole day, and yours too.
✩ Afternoon moment
He took his staff in his hand, and chose for himself five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag which he had. His sling was in his hand; and he came near to the Philistine.
1 Samuel 17:40 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: David picked up his shepherd's stick and five smooth stones from the stream, and put them in his bag before he went out to face the giant.
Maybe today at school something felt too big for you. A test, a mean word, a game nobody picked you for. David felt small too, standing in front of a giant who was way taller than him.
But look what David did. He did not run away and he did not pretend he was not scared. He just bent down by the stream and picked up five smooth stones, one by one. Small things in His hand, ready to use. He trusted that God was with him, even holding something as small as a stone.
Your turn
You do not need giant muscles to be brave. You just need one small thing you can do today. Tell someone at home about the hardest part of your day, out loud, just like that.
☾ Evening moment
But the very hairs of your head are all counted. Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.
Luke 12:7 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God knows you so well that He even counted every hair on your head. You never need to be afraid, because you matter so much to Him.
Today is over now. Maybe you ran at break, maybe you forgot your homework, maybe you had a snack after school. All of that is behind you now.
Think about this. God knows every single hair on your head. That means He knows the tiny things too, the things nobody else noticed today. The quiet worry you had, the happy moment you almost forgot. He saw it all, and He is not far away.
Your turn
You don't have to hold onto anything tonight. You are safe, you are known, and you are loved more than you can count, just like your hairs. Before you close your eyes, whisper one thing to God that happened today, something small He already knows about.
