Joy and Safety in God
Joy and Safety
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 37:4, Proverbs 17:22, Luke 19:9 and Psalm 91:5.
☀ Morning moment
Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: When you are happy with God and love being close to Him, He gives good things to your heart.
Your shoes are by the door, your bag is packed, and in a minute you will be out into the morning air. Maybe you are excited for school today, maybe your tummy feels a little nervous. Either way, God is already awake with you.
Think about the things you love. Maybe it is drawing, or football at break, or sitting next to your best friend at lunch. God put that joy in you. He is not far away watching from a distance, He is right there smiling when you laugh with your friends or finish a puzzle you worked hard on.
When your heart is happy with God, Your whole day feels lighter, even the boring bits like tying your shoelaces or waiting for the bus. He is not stingy with His love. He fills your heart with good things, one ordinary moment at a time.
Your turn
Before you leave the house today, tell one person something that made you happy this morning.
✦ Lunch moment
A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Proverbs 17:22 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: A happy heart helps your whole body feel good, but feeling sad and crushed can make you feel weak and tired.
Think about this morning. Maybe it was busy, maybe someone said something grumpy, maybe you forgot your homework. Lunch is a good moment to press the reset button.
A cheerful heart is like sunshine inside you. It does not mean you pretend everything is perfect. It means you choose to smile, to laugh at something silly, to notice one good thing, even on an ordinary Monday. That little bit of cheer can carry you through math class, through the rest of recess, through the walk home.
You can be that sunshine for someone else too. A smile, a joke, a kind word at the lunch table can lift someone's whole afternoon.
Your turn
Today, make one person at your table or at home laugh or smile on purpose.
✩ Afternoon moment
Jesus said to him, “Today, salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham.
Luke 19:9 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus told Zacchaeus that today God's rescue had come right into His house, because he belonged to God's family too.
Maybe today someone at school picked you last for a game, or sat at the other end of the table. Zacchaeus knew that feeling. Nobody liked him. He was small, and everyone said he was a cheater. He climbed a tree just to get a peek at Jesus.
But Jesus stopped right under that tree, looked up, and called his name. Not the mayor, not the teacher, not the most popular kid in town. Zacchaeus. Jesus walked into His house and ate dinner with him, like they were old friends.
Your turn
Jesus still looks up into the trees where the forgotten kids are hiding. He is not looking for the loudest or the best. He is looking for you. Tell someone at home one person who felt left out today, and how you could sit with them tomorrow.
☾ Evening moment
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Psalm 91:5 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: You do not need to be scared of the dark or of things you cannot see. God is watching over you all night long.
Maybe your room gets dark tonight, and the house creaks a little when everyone is quiet. That is just the house settling, nothing more. You are safe under your blanket, and you are safe in God's hands too.
Today was a Monday, maybe with school, maybe with homework, maybe with a game outside before dinner. All of that is finished now. You do not have to carry any of it into the night. God is not tired, He does not need to sleep, so He keeps watching while you rest.
Your turn
Before you close your eyes, whisper one quiet thank you to God for something good from today.
