Bow Down, Rest, and Trust God
Worship and Rest
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 95:6, Psalm 133:1, Mark 6:31 and Psalm 3:5.
☀ Morning moment
Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before Yahweh, our Maker,
Psalm 95:6 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Come and bow down to worship God. Let's kneel down before Yahweh, who made us.
Today is Sunday, a special day. You might put on your nicest shirt, hold mom's hand, and walk into church together. Maybe you sing loud songs, or sit quietly and listen. All of that is worship.
You do not need fancy words to talk to God. You can just kneel by your bed, or fold your hands at the table, and say hello to Him. He made you, your laugh, your wiggly toes, your whole self, and He loves it when you come close.
Sunday is a rest day too. No rushing, no homework, just time with family and with God. Think of Him like a friend who is always glad to see you walk in the door.
Your turn
Today, bow your head for a moment and say one thank you to God before you leave for church.
✦ Lunch moment
See how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to live together in unity!
Psalm 133:1 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God says it is good and happy when people get along and are together as friends.
Think about today. Maybe the whole family sat together after church, or you saw friends at the service, or cousins came over for lunch. That warm, happy feeling when everyone is together, laughing, sharing food, that is exactly what this verse is talking about.
God loves it when people are close instead of far apart. Not fighting over the last piece of bread, not grumpy in the corner, but really together. Even small things count, passing the salt, letting someone sit next to you, laughing at the same joke.
Your turn
This afternoon, sit close to someone in your family for a little while, even if it is just on the same couch, and enjoy being together.
✩ Afternoon moment
He said to them, “You come apart into a deserted place, and rest awhile.” For there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
Mark 6:31 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus saw His friends were busy and tired. He told them to come away with Him and rest for a bit.
Sunday afternoons can feel quiet after a busy morning at church. Maybe you played with your cousins, sang loud songs, or just sat still on a bench. Jesus knew His friends got tired too, even doing good things like helping people. He did not scold them for being tired. He simply said, come with Me, rest for a while.
Think about how your body feels right now. Are your legs heavy from running around? Is your tummy full from lunch? That is okay. Resting is not lazy, it is something Jesus Himself asked His friends to do.
You do not need a big plan for rest. Sometimes it is just lying on the floor, looking at the ceiling, breathing slowly three times.
Your turn
Find a cozy spot in your house and sit quietly there for two minutes, just resting like Jesus asked His friends to.
☾ Evening moment
I laid myself down and slept. I awakened; for Yahweh sustains me.
Psalm 3:5 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: The person in this psalm lies down, falls asleep, and wakes up safe, because God was holding him the whole night.
Think about your bed right now, soft and warm, waiting for you. Maybe you have a favorite blanket or a stuffed animal you hug tight. Tonight, while you close your eyes, God is not closing His.
You don't have to stay awake to keep yourself safe. You don't have to check the door one more time or listen for every little sound. God is already awake, already watching, already holding your whole house in His hands, like He held that person in the psalm all through the night.
Your turn
Before you fall asleep tonight, whisper one thing you are thankful for from today to God.
