God Keeps You Safe and Happy
Safe in God
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 32:7, Proverbs 10:12, Mark 7:34-35 and Psalm 116:7.
☀ Morning moment
You are my hiding place. You will preserve me from trouble. You will surround me with songs of deliverance.
Psalm 32:7 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God is like a safe hiding place for you. He keeps you from trouble and fills your day with happy songs.
You pull on your shoes, grab your backpack, maybe you forgot your homework again. Mornings can feel like a rush, like everything happens too fast before you even had breakfast.
✦ Lunch moment
Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs.
Proverbs 10:12 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Being mean starts fights, but love helps you forgive and move on from little mistakes.
Maybe this morning someone bumped your bag, or took the last seat you wanted. Small things like that can grow into a big grumpy feeling if you let them.
But love works differently. Love does not keep score. It says, that is okay, and moves on. It is like a soft blanket that covers up the scratchy little annoyances instead of poking at them all day.
Your turn
This afternoon, you will probably have a chance to be annoyed with someone again, at lunch, in the playground, or later at home. When that happens, try covering it with love instead of stirring it up. Say something kind to someone who bugged you today, instead of complaining about them.
✩ Afternoon moment
Looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!” Immediately his ears were opened, and the impediment of his tongue was released, and he spoke clearly.
Mark 7:34-35 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus looked up to heaven and said, "Be opened!" Right away the man could hear everything and talk clearly.
Think about the walk home from school today. You hear cars, birds, your friend calling your name, your own footsteps on the path. Now imagine none of that. That was this man's whole life, until Jesus met him.
Jesus did not just wave His hand from far away. He got close. He touched the man's ears, looked up to heaven, and said one strong word, "Be opened!" Right then, sounds rushed in. Voices, laughter, wind. The man could finally answer people back too.
Your turn
Jesus still notices the things you cannot fix by yourself. Today, when you get home, tell mom or dad one sound you were glad to hear this afternoon.
☾ Evening moment
Return to your rest, my soul, for Yahweh has dealt bountifully with you.
Psalm 116:7 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God tells your heart, come back and rest now. He has been so good to you today.
Think about your pillow right now. Soft, cool, waiting for your head. In a little while you will lie down on it and close your eyes.
Before you do, take one breath. Think about today. Maybe you played outside, maybe you helped set the table, maybe you laughed at something silly. God was there for all of it, even the small moments you already forgot.
You do not have to hold onto anything tonight. Not your worries, not your busy thoughts. You can let your whole body go soft, like a stuffed animal flopped on the bed, because God is awake and watching while you sleep.
Your turn
Before you close your eyes tonight, whisper one thing you are glad happened today.
