The Bible for kids
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Matthew 6:26, Psalm 103:1, John 6:9 and Matthew 11:28.
☀ Morning moment
See the birds of the sky, that they don’t sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns. Your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you of much more value than they?
Matthew 6:26 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus says: look at the birds. They do not plant food, yet God feeds them. And you matter even more to God than the birds do.
Have you ever watched a sparrow on a fence near the school gate? It hops, grabs a crumb from somebody's dropped sandwich, then flies off chirping. That little bird has no lunchbox and no plan. Still it gets fed, every single day.
Jesus pointed right at birds like that one. He said God takes care of them. God knows where every crumb is. And then Jesus said something amazing: you are worth even more to God than all those birds together.
So whatever is waiting for you this Tuesday, a spelling test, teams being picked at break, a friend who was grumpy yesterday, your Father in heaven already knows. He is going with you out the door. You can go light, like a sparrow.
✦ Lunch moment
Praise Yahweh, my soul! All that is within me, praise his holy name!
Psalm 103:1 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Say thank you to God with everything inside you. Let your whole self be glad about how good He is.
Look down at your lunch for a second. Bread, maybe an apple, maybe something you traded with a friend. Somebody made it. Somebody thought of you this morning while you were still yawning.
David wrote this song and he told his own heart what to do. He said, wake up, my soul, say thank you. Sometimes you have to nudge yourself like that. Tuesdays can feel a bit grey, halfway through the week, with maths still waiting after lunch.
So try it quietly. Thank You, God, for this food. Thank You for my friend who saved me a seat. Thank You for the sun on the playground. God hears every one of those small thank yous, and they make your own heart lighter too.
✩ Afternoon moment
“There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?”
John 6:9 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: A boy in the crowd had five little loaves of bread and two fish. It looked like far too little for thousands of hungry people.
Imagine bringing your lunchbox to a park with five thousand people in it. Five thousand hungry people. And in your hands, five small flat breads and two fish, the kind you could hold in one palm.
Somebody noticed that boy. Andrew told Jesus about him, and then he added the sad part out loud, what good is this for so many? It really did look like nothing. Maybe the boy thought so too.
But he handed it over anyway. Jesus took the small lunch, thanked God for it, and started breaking bread. It kept coming. Everyone ate until they were full, and there were twelve baskets of leftovers.
Jesus does not need you to bring something big. He just likes it when you bring what you have.
☾ Evening moment
“Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus says: are you tired, does your heart feel heavy? Come to Me, and I will give you rest.
Have you ever carried a bag so full that your shoulder started to ache? You keep switching hands. You just want to put it down somewhere.
Some days feel like that heavy bag. Maybe today something got stuck inside you. A test that went wrong. A friend who was not kind. A moment when you felt very small. You carried it around all day.
Jesus says something wonderfully simple. Come to Me. You do not have to be strong first, and you do not have to fix it first. You can hand it over, right here in your bed. Whisper to Him what felt heavy today. Then let your pillow hold your head, and let Him hold the rest. He stays awake while you sleep.
