God's light guides your day
God's guiding light
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 119:105, Proverbs 15:23, John 6:11 and Psalm 17:8.
☀ Morning moment
Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path.
Psalm 119:105 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God's words are like a flashlight. They light up the path in front of you, so you can see where to walk.
Have you ever walked down a dark hallway with a flashlight? The light doesn't show you the whole house at once. It shows you the next step, and then the next one.
God's words work like that on a Friday morning. You don't know everything about today yet. Maybe there is a spelling test, or a friend who was grumpy yesterday, or a game at recess where you really hope someone picks you. God gives you enough light for the next step, and that is enough.
So put on your shoes and go. One little verse in your pocket, one small prayer in your heart. He shines just ahead of you, all the way to the last bell.
✦ Lunch moment
Joy comes to a man with the reply of his mouth. How good is a word at the right time!
Proverbs 15:23 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: It feels good to say the right thing at the right moment. A kind word at the right time is a wonderful gift.
Think about the last time someone said something nice to you. Maybe your teacher said, well done. Maybe a friend said, come sit with me. Small words, but they stayed with you all day.
Words are a bit like snacks in your lunch box. You can hand one to somebody who has nothing. It costs you almost nothing, and it fills them up. A good word at exactly the right moment can turn a grey Friday into a bright one.
God gave you a voice for this. You do not need a speech. You can say, that drawing is cool, or, are you okay? Somebody near you today is waiting for one kind sentence. You could be the one who says it.
✩ Afternoon moment
Jesus took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were sitting down; likewise also of the fish as much as they desired.
John 6:11 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus thanked God for a little bread and fish. Then He shared it out, and everyone got as much as they wanted.
Have you ever opened your lunchbox and found only a tiny bit left? One sandwich, and five friends looking at it. That feels impossible.
On a grassy hillside there were thousands of hungry people and only five little loaves and two fish. The disciples counted, and shook their heads. Not enough. Not even close. But Jesus took the small basket, said thank You to His Father, and started handing food out. And it kept coming. Bread, fish, more bread. People ate until they were full, and there were still leftovers.
Nobody could explain it. The Bible does not explain it either. It just tells you what happened when something small was placed in Jesus' hands. Your small things are welcome there too.
☾ Evening moment
Keep me as the apple of your eye. Hide me under the shadow of your wings,
Psalm 17:8 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God, keep me as someone precious to You. Hide me safe under Your wings, like a bird keeps her little ones warm.
Have you ever seen a mother bird on her nest? Her chicks tuck in underneath her. Their heads disappear into her soft feathers. Nothing can reach them there. It is warm, and it is dark, and it is safe.
That is the picture in tonight's words. God is like that. You are lying in your bed now, and the week is finished. School is done, the bag is by the door, and tomorrow is Saturday. You can let it all go.
Maybe today had something small that still stings, a friend who walked away, or a test that felt hard. God knows about it. He is close, right here in your room. He keeps you like something precious. Sleep well, little chick.
