God saves good gifts for you
God's good gifts
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 31:19, Psalm 34:1, John 21:9 and Psalm 127:2.
☀ Morning moment
Oh how great is your goodness, which you have laid up for those who fear you, which you have worked for those who take refuge in you, before the sons of men!
Psalm 31:19 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God has stored up so much goodness for the people who trust Him. It is like a treasure chest, and He loves opening it.
Saturday. No alarm shouting at you. Maybe you can smell toast, or hear the washing machine humming, or nothing at all yet.
Today is a bit like a wrapped present. You do not know what is inside. Maybe a bike ride. Maybe pancakes. Maybe your little brother following you around again. Maybe a rainy morning with a blanket and a book.
God has good things stored up for the people who come to Him, the psalm says. Not just for special days. For ordinary Saturdays too. A friend who rings the doorbell. A grandma who calls. The way sunlight lands on the kitchen floor. Keep your eyes open today, because His goodness is often hiding in small, everyday things, and it is real.
✦ Lunch moment
I will bless Yahweh at all times. His praise will always be in my mouth.
Psalm 34:1 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: I will thank God all the time. Good words about Him are always ready on my lips.
Look at your plate for a second. Bread, maybe some fruit, a drink beside it. Somebody made that, and God grew it. Saturday food tastes different, doesn't it? Slower, with nobody rushing you out the door.
David wrote that he would thank God at all times. Not just on Sunday in church. Also on a lazy Saturday with crumbs on the table and bikes lying in the garden.
So you can thank Him now, quietly, in your head. Thank You for lunch. Thank You for this free day. Thank You for whoever is sitting near me. Then go back outside and play. God hears little thank yous just as well as long ones, and He loves hearing yours.
✩ Afternoon moment
So when they got out on the land, they saw a fire of coals there, with fish and bread laid on it.
John 21:9 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: When the tired fishermen stepped onto the beach, Jesus already had a fire going, with fish cooking and bread ready for breakfast.
Picture a beach early in the morning. The sand is cool. Smoke curls up from a little fire. Someone is crouched beside it, turning fish over the coals.
That someone is Jesus. His friends had been out on the water all night and caught nothing. They were wet, hungry and grumpy. And there He was, cooking them breakfast. He didn't give them a lecture. He said, "Come and eat."
Maybe today someone made you pancakes, or poured you a drink, or saved you the last cookie. Small things. But that is exactly how Jesus loved His friends. A fire, some fish, warm bread. He knows when you are tired and hungry, and He still cares about the little things.
☾ Evening moment
It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his loved ones.
Psalm 127:2 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: You do not have to work and worry all day and all night. God gives sleep to the people He loves, like a gift.
Saturdays can be full. Maybe you rode your bike, built a den in the garden, or helped stir something in a bowl in the kitchen. Now your legs feel tired and your pillow feels cool and soft.
Here is something lovely. You do not have to keep the whole world turning tonight. God never falls asleep. While you dream, He is awake, watching over your room, your family, your street. Sleep is His gift to you, tucked gently into your night.
Tomorrow is Sunday, a slower morning. You can leave today with God, the happy bits and the bumpy bits too. He knows all of it, and He is not worried. Close your eyes. You are safe, and you are loved.
