God is good and hears us
God's loving care
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 145:9, Proverbs 27:9, 1 Samuel 3:10 and Psalm 121:7-8.
☀ The morning moment
Yahweh is good to all. His tender mercies are over all his works.
Psalm 145:9 (WEB)
In simple words: God is kind to everyone and everything He has made. His love is soft and warm, like a gentle hug over the whole world.
Good morning! Do you smell breakfast yet? Maybe pancakes, or toast with jam, or just a bowl of cereal with cold milk. Saturday mornings are the best kind of slow.
God is good to you today. He made the sunshine on your window and the birds outside chirping. He made your family, even your little brother who sings too loud. God's kindness is everywhere you look, if you slow down to see it.
Maybe you'll ride your bike later, or build a fort, or help bake cookies. Whatever your Saturday holds, God is right there with you, being gentle and kind. He loves every little part of your day, from waking up to yawning at night.
✦ The lunch moment
Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart; so does earnest counsel from a man's friend.
Proverbs 27:9 (WEB)
In simple words: A good smell makes you happy. In the same way, a good friend who gives you honest advice makes your heart glad.
Think about your best friend for a second. Maybe it's your cousin, the kid next door, or your brother. What makes them so great?
The Bible says a good friend is like the smell of fresh cookies coming out of the oven, or flowers in the garden. It just makes you feel good inside. And even better than a nice smell is when a friend helps you figure something out, or tells you the truth in a kind way.
It's Saturday, so maybe you'll see a friend today at the park, at a birthday, or over a video call. You could be that friend who cheers someone up. A small word, a laugh together, sharing your snack. That's a gift.
✩ The afternoon moment
Yahweh came, and stood, and called as at other times, "Samuel! Samuel!" Then Samuel said, "Speak; for your servant hears."
1 Samuel 3:10 (WEB)
In simple words: God called Samuel by name in the night. Samuel answered, "I am listening, God. Please speak to me."
Imagine it is late at night. The house is quiet. Everyone is sleeping. Suddenly you hear someone call your name. That happened to a boy named Samuel. He was probably about your age.
Three times he heard the voice, and three times he ran to the old priest Eli. But it was not Eli calling. It was God Himself, speaking to a young boy.
Today is Saturday, a slower day. Maybe you have time to just sit in the garden, or lie on your bed and look at the ceiling. God still speaks. Sometimes through the Bible, sometimes through a kind thought that pops into your head. You do not have to be a grown-up to hear Him.
☾ The evening moment
Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more.
Psalm 121:7-8 (WEB)
In simple words: God watches over you all the time. When you go out and when you come home, God keeps you safe, today and always.
Saturday is almost over. Maybe you played outside, watched a movie with your family, or helped make pancakes for breakfast. Now the house is quieter. Your pillow is waiting.
Did you know God has been with you the whole day? When you laughed, when you were bored, when you felt happy or grumpy. He never once looked away. And now, as you close your eyes, He does not go to sleep. He stays right there.
Tomorrow is Sunday. A soft, slow day. But first comes tonight, and tonight you are safe. God is watching over your going out and your coming in. That means everywhere, always. You can rest now.
