God is our safe and strong helper
Safe with God
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 46:1, Proverbs 25:11, Matthew 14:29-30 and Psalm 91:5.
☀ The morning moment
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 46:1 (WEB)
In simple words: God is like a safe hiding place. When something is hard or scary, He is right there with you, ready to help.
Have you ever run inside when it started to rain really hard? The roof over your head keeps you dry and safe. That is a bit like what God is for you.
Today you have school. Maybe there is a spelling test, or a kid on the playground who is not always nice. Maybe you have to give an answer in front of the class. Those things can make your tummy feel wobbly.
But listen. God is close. Not far away in the sky, but right next to you at your desk, in the hallway, on the bus. He is your strong, safe place. You can whisper to Him any time, and He hears you. That is a good way to start Thursday.
✦ The lunch moment
A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
Proverbs 25:11 (WEB)
In simple words: When you say the right thing at the right moment, it is as beautiful and precious as golden apples in a silver dish.
Imagine a shiny gold apple resting in a silver bowl. That is what your words can look like when you use them well.
Maybe someone in your class looked sad this morning. Or a friend forgot their lunch. One kind sentence from you, 'I like sitting next to you,' or 'You can share mine,' can sparkle brighter than treasure. You do not need a lot of words. Just the right ones, at the right moment.
This afternoon you will bump into people again. On the playground, in the hallway, at home. Watch for a chance to drop a little gold apple into someone's day. You may be surprised how much one small sentence can shine.
✩ The afternoon moment
He said, 'Come!' Peter stepped down from the boat, and walked on the waters to come to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, 'Lord, save me!'
Matthew 14:29-30 (WEB)
In simple words: Peter climbed out of the boat and actually walked on the water toward Jesus. Then he noticed the wind, got scared, and started to sink. So he shouted for Jesus to help.
Imagine standing on a lake like it was the classroom floor. Peter did that. One foot out of the boat, then the other, and the water held him up.
But then he felt the wind on His face. He saw the waves splashing high. And suddenly his feet started sinking, like walking into thick mud. He forgot to look at Jesus.
Maybe today something felt like a big wave to you. A hard test. A friend who was mean. A worry you can't shake off. Peter shows you what to do when you start sinking. He didn't try to swim harder or pretend everything was fine. He just yelled, 'Jesus, help me!' And Jesus reached out right away.
☾ The evening moment
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day;
Psalm 91:5 (WEB)
In simple words: You don't have to be scared at night, and you don't have to be scared during the day either. God is watching over you all the time.
Thursday is almost done. Maybe you had school today, or maybe you played outside until your cheeks turned pink. Now your pillow is waiting for you, cool and soft.
Sometimes at night your room looks a little different. Shadows on the wall. A creak in the hallway. Your brain wants to stay busy, even when your body is tired. That is why this verse is such a good friend at bedtime.
God is not sleepy. He does not close His eyes when you close yours. While you dream about tomorrow, He is already there, waiting. You can let go of today. You can let tomorrow wait. You are safe, small one. Really safe.
