God Fills Your Day With Joy
Joy and Care
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 92:4, Proverbs 18:24, Daniel 1:12 and Psalm 91:11.
☀ Morning moment
For you, Yahweh, have made me glad through your work. I will triumph in the works of your hands.
Psalm 92:4 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God's work makes you happy inside, like a sunny morning. You can be glad because of everything He does.
You open your eyes and the day is already waiting for you. Shoes to find, breakfast to eat, a backpack to grab before you run out the door. Some mornings feel easy and some feel grumpy, but God is already awake and already glad about His world.
Think about the things His hands have made. The smell of toast, your dog wagging its tail, the friend who waves at the bus stop, the sun coming up over the roofs. None of that happened by accident. God made it, and He is happy with His own work, just like you are happy showing mom a drawing you made.
Your turn
You get to carry that gladness with you today, into the classroom, onto the playground, right through lunch and home again. Tell someone one good thing you noticed this morning, like the sky or your breakfast, and say thanks to God for it.
✦ Lunch moment
A man of many companions may be ruined, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Proverbs 18:24 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: You can have lots of friends, but a true friend is the one who stays close to you, even closer than a brother or sister.
Right now you might be sitting at a lunch table, picking a seat, deciding who to sit next to. It seems like a small choice, but it matters. Some friends are just for fun times. But a true friend stays with you even when things are hard, or when you made a mistake, or when nobody else wants to sit with you. God made friendship like that, strong and warm, like family. Think about your own friends for a second. Who always stays close to you, even on a bad day? You can be that kind of friend too, the sticking-close kind, not just the fun-times kind. Today at lunch, look around. Maybe someone is sitting alone. Go sit next to that person and ask them one question about their day.
✩ Afternoon moment
“Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink.
Daniel 1:12 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Daniel asked for plain food instead of the king's fancy food, so he could still obey God.
Think about lunchtime at school. Maybe everyone opens a bag of chips, but your snack is just an apple. It can feel strange to be different. Daniel was far from home, in a palace full of rich food. But that food did not honor God the way Daniel wanted. So he asked for something simple instead, even though it was not what everyone else was eating. He was brave in a quiet way, just by choosing what he knew was right for him. You will have small moments like that too, choosing kindness when others tease, or honesty when it is easier to lie. God sees those small brave choices. Tell one person today about a time you did something different because you wanted to do what was right.
☾ Evening moment
For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.
Psalm 91:11 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: God sends His angels to watch over you, wherever you go, even while you sleep tonight.
Think about your room right now, the quiet dark, your blanket, maybe a nightlight glowing. It feels small and safe, doesn't it? But even bigger than your room, God is watching over you tonight.
You don't have to check the corners or listen for noises. God already sent His angels to guard you, like guards standing quietly by your bed. They don't get tired. They don't fall asleep. They stay close all night long, even when your eyes are closed and your mind is dreaming.
Your turn
You can rest now, because you are not alone, not even for one second. Before you close your eyes, whisper one thing you are thankful for today.
