Trusting God Each Day
Trust and thanks
Four short Bible moments for children, based on Matthew 6:34, Psalm 136:26, Daniel 1:8 and Psalm 91:15.
☀ Morning moment
Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient.
Matthew 6:34 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Jesus says you don't need to worry about tomorrow. Just live today, one step at a time, and trust God with the rest.
Maybe you woke up already thinking about the whole day. The math test, the long bus ride, whether your friend will play with you at recess. That is a lot to carry before breakfast is even finished.
Jesus says something so simple. You don't have to carry tomorrow, or even the whole day. Just today. Just this morning. Just putting on your shoes, eating your toast, walking out the door. God is already there in every little piece of your day, one step at a time.
Your turn
So breathe out. You don't have to figure it all out right now. Before you leave the house, tell God one thing you are a little nervous about today.
✦ Lunch moment
Oh give thanks to the God of heaven; for his loving kindness endures forever.
Psalm 136:26 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: The Bible tells us to thank God who lives in heaven, because His love for us never runs out.
Right now, somewhere close by, there is a sandwich or a plate of food waiting for you. That is not nothing. Someone made it, someone paid for it, and behind all of that, God gave the wheat and the sun and the rain to grow it.
Sometimes lunch is just lunch, quick and busy, and you forget to notice. But today you can stop for one second before you eat. Not a long prayer, just a quick thank you in your head, like waving at a friend across the playground.
Your turn
God's love does not stop, not even for a lunch break. Before you eat today, say one quiet thank you to God for your food.
✩ Afternoon moment
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king’s dainties, nor with the wine which he drank. Therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Daniel 1:8 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: Daniel decided in his heart he would not eat the king's fancy food. He asked kindly if he could eat something else instead.
You know that moment after school when everyone wants the biggest cookie, or the last seat, or to be first in line? Daniel had moments like that too, but way bigger. The king wanted him to eat rich food that would make him forget who he was. Daniel was young, maybe not much older than you. He could have just gone along with it. Instead, he decided in his heart what he would do, before anyone even asked him. He didn't shout or make a big fuss. He just quietly asked, kindly, for something different. That takes courage, the quiet kind. Nobody claps for it, but God sees it. You will have small moments today too, choosing what is right even when nobody is watching closely. Tell someone at home about one choice you made today, even a tiny one.
☾ Evening moment
He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.
Psalm 91:15 (World English Bible (WEB))
In simple words: When you call out to God, He hears you and answers. He stays close to you, even when things feel hard.
The lights are almost out. Maybe you can still hear dishes clinking downstairs, or a dog barking somewhere outside. Today was a normal Thursday, school, homework, maybe a snack after playing outside. Now your body is tired and your bed feels soft and warm.
God was with you all day today, even when you didn't think about Him. He was there at breakfast, at school, during recess, and He is still here now, right beside your bed. You don't need to find special words. You can just whisper His name, and He hears you. He never gets too tired to listen, and He never walks away.
Your turn
Before you close your eyes, quietly say one thing you are thankful for today, even something small like a friend's smile or a yummy snack.
