God is our strength and joy

Strength and joy

Archive For children 4 Bible verses

Four short Bible moments for children, based on Psalm 118:14, Proverbs 15:30, Mark 10:49-50 and Psalm 139:5.

☀ The morning moment

Yah is my strength and song. He has become my salvation.

Psalm 118:14 (WEB)

In simple words: God gives me strength, and He makes me want to sing. He is the One who saves me and keeps me safe.

Do you ever hum a little tune while you brush your teeth? Maybe a song from school, or one your dad sings in the car. Songs have a funny way of waking us up.

This morning verse says God is like a song inside you. When your backpack feels heavy, or you are nervous about a spelling test, God gives you strength. Real strength, the kind that helps your feet keep walking to the classroom.

And He gives you a song too. Not a loud one, just a happy hum deep down that says, God is with me today. On the bus, at recess, at lunch. You can carry that song everywhere you go.

✦ The lunch moment

The light of the eyes rejoices the heart. Good news gives health to the bones.

Proverbs 15:30 (WEB)

In simple words: A friendly face makes people happy inside. Good news feels good, right down to your bones!

Think about someone at your lunch table right now, or someone you'll see this afternoon. Their day might be going great, or maybe not so great. You don't always know what's happening in someone's head.

Here's the cool part: a smile from you can actually change how someone feels. Not a fake one, a real one. The Bible says a friendly face makes hearts glad. Your eyes and smile are like a little light you carry around with you.

And good news? That's even better. Telling a friend something kind, like 'I'm glad you're here today,' can make them feel stronger inside. You have that power in your pocket for the whole afternoon.

✩ The afternoon moment

Jesus stood still, and said, “Call him.” They called the blind man, saying to him, “Cheer up! Get up. He is calling you!” He, casting away his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus.

Mark 10:49-50 (WEB)

In simple words: Jesus stopped walking and called for the blind man Bartimaeus. Bartimaeus jumped up so fast that he threw off his coat and ran to Jesus.

Picture the scene. A dusty road, a huge crowd pushing past, and one blind man sitting in the dirt. His name was Bartimaeus. He had been shouting for Jesus, and people told him to be quiet. But he shouted louder.

Then something amazing happened. Jesus stopped. All that noise, all those people, and Jesus heard one voice. He said, "Call him." Suddenly the same crowd that hushed Bartimaeus was telling him, "Get up! Jesus wants you!"

Bartimaeus did not walk politely. He threw his coat off and jumped up. Maybe after a long school day you feel small or unheard. Jesus is the kind of person who stops for you too. He hears your voice in the crowd.

☾ The evening moment

You hem me in behind and before. You laid your hand on me.

Psalm 139:5 (WEB)

In simple words: God is all around you, in front and behind. His hand is gently resting on you, keeping you safe.

Look at your pillow. Soft, waiting for your head. In a little while you will close your eyes, and the day is finished. School, homework, everything you did today, it can all be put down now.

Here is something wonderful. God is in front of you and behind you. Like a warm hug that wraps all the way around. You cannot see it, but it is real. Wherever you turn tonight, He is there.

And His hand rests on you. Not heavy, just gentle, like when someone you love pats your shoulder. You do not have to hold onto God tightly. He is already holding onto you. Sleep well. You are safe.
